2 men riding in tandem kill retired cop

A RETIRED policeman was shot and killed after Iftar, or the evening meal with which Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset, and about to go to the mosque in Zamboanga City, the police reported Monday, April 18, 2022.

Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, said the incident happened around 6:09 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at the KGK building along Lustre Street in Sta. Catalina village, Zamboanga City.

Lorenzo identified the victim as retired Police Staff Sergeant Mael Elih, 52, a resident of Lustre Street, Sta. Catalina village.

He said investigation showed that after the victim took his Iftar, he went out of his house purposely to go to the mosque to pray.

Lorenzo said upon embarking on his motorcycle, two male persons riding in tandem onboard on a black motorcycle shot the victim twice and sped towards Evangelista street, Sta. Catalina village.

The victim was hit in the nape and back of the body that caused his instantaneous death.

Lorenzo said an in-depth probe is being conducted to identify and arrest the suspects. (SunStar Zamboanga)
