THE City Government of Bacolod is now planning to provide a relocation site for five of the 12 families who were affected by the landslide in Purok San Jose, Barangay in Alijis due to heavy rains triggered by Tropical Depression Agaton last week.

Eunice Ciocon, head of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO), said the houses of these families are situated in critical danger zone, thus they need to be relocated.

Ciocon met with the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), City Engineer's Office, Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA) and officials of Barangay Alijis regarding the concern on Tuesday, April 19.

The families composed of 20 individuals, who were affected by the landslide, are still taking shelter at the E.J. Garcia Elementary School, she said, adding that the families whose residences are outside the critical danger zone may be allowed to return to their houses.

Ciocon said they will also coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd) to temporarily use their classrooms for two months for the five affected families.

"While we are processing their requirements, they will stay in the evacuation center and we will provide them assistance," she said.

She added that the CDRRMO will also check the evacuation center in Barangay Taculing with the City Engineer's Office.
