3 nabbed for illegal drugs, carrying firearms

AUTHORITIES apprehended three individuals for possession of P70,000 worth of illegal drugs and for carrying firearms amid the ongoing election gun ban in Davao City over the weekend.

In a report forwarded to the media, the Task Force Davao accosted three individuals at the Lacson Checkpoint, Calinan District in the city on Saturday, April 23.

The security forces apprehended Gerald Garcia, 30, a resident of Purok Dugso, San Pedro, Panabo City; Michael Garcia, 25, a resident of Purok Dugso, San Pedro, Panabo City; and Jenelyn Masernas, 25, a resident of Quezon, Bukidnon.

The suspects were on board a trailer truck from Valencia, Bukidnon going to Panabo City via Davao City.

Among the items that were confiscated were 11 sachets of shabu with a total weight of 4.01 grams and an estimated street value of P70,000.

Also confiscated were a sachet of marijuana weighing around 1.21 grams with an estimated street value of P500, one 9mm pistol along with two magazines with 14 round ammunition, one 357 revolver with five round ammunitions; cellular phones, and drug paraphernalia.

The suspect and pieces of evidence were immediately turned over to the Calinan Police Station for proper disposition.

Another suspect was apprehended at the Bunawan checkpoint on the same day.

Authorities arrested public utility van (PUV) passenger Ramon Tusoy Evangelio, 30, for carrying 2.76 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of P331.

He was placed under the custody of Bunawan Police Station for proper disposition.

The arrested individuals will face charges for violations of the Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The suspects who were caught with firearms, meanwhile, will be charged with violation of the Comelec Resolution 10728, which suspends the permit to carry firearms outside of residence for civilians since it started on January 9. They would also face charges in violation of RA 10591 for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
