THE running scene in Cebu is slowly picking up its pieces from the two-year inactivity caused by the Covid-19 restrictions as another fun run is set to take place on May 15 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Following the successful staging of the first fun run in Cebu City last week, Coco Running in cooperation with the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) will bring the 2022 Cebu City Summer Run to Cebuano fitness enthusiasts.

The sporting event is open to all. The expected number of participants is 1,500 individuals.

Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) chairman John Pages said in a virtual press conference Saturday that this sporting activity signifies the start of running events in Cebu and a direction for more events to come.

As a support to the grassroots program of the sports commission, organizer and race director Joel Juarez will subsidize the registration fee of the grassroots athletes from the CCSC.

The event will feature the 10-kilometer, 5K and 3K categories. The top three runners in each category will receive cash prizes.

Since the economy and the people are still recovering from the impact of Covid-19, the registration fee is pegged at a lower cost. The entry fee is P200 for the 3K, P250 for the 5K and P300 for the 10K. All categories are inclusive of finishers’ medal, race bib and refreshments.

Slots are available online at https://tinyurl.com/2p82w2up and onsite at Runnr Store Ayala and CCSC until May 11.

To recall, Juarez was the race director of the RC Goldline Half Marathon 2022 Recovery Run held last April 24, the first major fun run in Cebu City since Covid-19 put the sporting scene to a standstill.

Pages said for the month of May, there are two fun runs on the calendar of CCSC—the Cebu City Summer Run on May 15 and the Department of Education Fun Run for a Cause on May 29.
