Limlingan: The end is near

SOON the smoke of the election campaign will be waning and the remnants of the war remain. The noise coming from loudspeakers shall be replaced with voices from the radio, television and social media covering the canvassing of votes for the national positions.

We hope that posters of candidates shall be all brought down after the campaign so somehow remove all the eyesores that are aplenty today on streets. After the campaign comes the trash.

The sight of candidates roaming every street and alley and doing fistbumps with people will soon be gone. We shall know if these efforts were made good for some that they emerged as winners in the polls.

Plazas and basketball courts can now finally rest from meetings and caucuses. They have been through a lot of use, witnessing how candidates deliver their dialogues and discourses and how people are receptive enough to vote on their chosen candidates.

Televisions and the social media platforms shall now cease advertising politicians and their battle cries. Watching TV and browsing social media sites would now be a little pleasant sans political advertisements. We will miss anyway these campaign clips.

The converging of people will also be made few as political teams whether national or local, will stop conducting meetings that were usually made to discuss and strategize various political propaganda.

A few days from now will be Election Day. This democratic political exercise will determine the fate of our country through our elected highest leader of the land, the president. Aspirants vying for the senatorial posts also do hope to have slots.

Local positions will also be filled up. The proclamation of winners in this level is faster or earlier than to those national positions. Electorates will know sooner their leaders who were lucky enough to win.

With the automation of the polls, elections are now conducted much faster the way they used to be. Gone are the manual types of counting which usually takes three to four straight days to finish. However, there have been suspicions of hacking resulting to poll fraud. That's the downside of having high-tech gadgetry.

Speaking of poll activities, the Commission on Elections has extended the voting hours by four more. This is to give time allowance to social distancing. Previously, voting precincts are closed by 3 p.m. For this election, voting shall end by 7 p.m.
