LTO unveils new design of driver's license

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has released the new design of the driver's license.

The new face of the driver's license came out with barely two months left before President Duterte's term ends.

"We remain committed to work, build and serve, as driven by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade’s covenant with the Filipino people," the agency said.

The new design of the driver's license with a pearlized white theme that bears the same security features as the previous one.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said through the guidance of DOTr Secretary Tugade, the LTO ended the "papel na lisensya" era, wherein drivers were issued paper receipts as licenses.

Now, driver's license cards are made from durable polycarbonate material. These are also equipped with 32 security features.

The DOTr and the LTO have also pushed for the extension of the validity period of licenses from five to 10 years from the previous validity of only three years, for drivers with no demerit points or recorded violations.

For the long-term benefit of the drivers and motorists, the agency said that motorists should be assured that the LTO is continuously working and firm in its resolve to improve its services to streamline transactions, including the application and renewal of licenses.

It also vowed to further harness digital technology to improve efficiency and stamp out corruption and red tape in the agency.
