3 cops hurt, 1 unscathed in mishap

THREE policemen were injured, while another one was unscathed in a vehicular accident in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Thursday, May 5.

Police Lieutenant Marlene Galvez, Zamboanga Sibugay police information officer, said the incident happened around noon Wednesday, May 4, in Sitio Subing-Subing in Guintolan village, Payao municipality.

Galvez identified the victims as Police Patrolmen Elixer Garingo, Cornilius Lopina, and Melfrank Drapisa.

The driver, who was not identified, was unharmed during the incident.

Galvez said investigation showed that the victims were injured as the driver lost control of the steering wheel after the vehicle's brake malfunctioned.

The vehicle turned upside down while the police passengers were conducting preventive mobile patrol.

The three injured policemen were rushed to a hospital in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay and were later transferred to the medical facility in Zamboanga City. (SunStar Zamboanga)
