VOTERS woke up early to line up at voting precincts in Cebu Island to cast their votes on Election Day Monday, May 9, 2022.

As early as 5 a.m., residents were already seen queuing outside their respective village voting precincts.

Precincts around the country opened at 6 a.m. and are expected to close at 7 p.m.

Temperature checks were present at entrances of primary schools. People who were not wearing face masks properly were also not allowed to get in.

Some residents were worried that it may rain some time in the day due to cloudy weather, although some already came prepared and brought with them umbrellas.

Several individuals were also dismayed to find out that their names were not included on the list of voters for this year's elections.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier said that people can search for their names ahead of time online at https://voterverifier.comelec.gov.ph/voter_precinct. If one does not agree with their voter status, it said a person could contest by contacting their local Comelec office.

For a smoother voting process, Comelec said registered voters can bring with them a "kodigo" or a list of candidates they want to vote for.

Voters are not allowed to wear caps, face masks or t-shirts that bear the names of political candidates or else they will be asked to go home.

Jerome Brillantes, acting elections supervisor of Comelec Cebu Provincial Office, said those who arrive after 7 p.m. are no longer allowed to vote.

Brillantes added that the electoral board will list the names that fall in line until 7 p.m.

Voters' Action Centers were also seen actively helping voter concerns.

The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting also put up Voters' Assistance Desks to help residents with their concerns.
