The next rational thing to do

What was so anticipated for almost a year is over. Last May 9, more than 65 million Filipinos exercised their right to suffrage and voted for the national and local officials they have chosen. Like most of those ranting, my candidate did not also make it. And now, what is the next thing that I should do?

Firstly, I clearly have to accept the fact that in the elections, just like a game or a contest, there will be a winner and there will be a loser. Those who triumphed will celebrate their victory while those who lost must simply move forward. This is the first best thing to do, acceptance. We have to put in mind that the democratic process involves the choice of the majority, and yes, the majority of our fellowmen have so decided.

Secondly, I have to continue being a good citizen of this nation. Being in the government, that is quite expected of me. It should not matter whether the head of the country is the one I voted for or not. What is important is that I must fulfill my duties and responsibilities in the best way possible in all instances possible. The period after the elections is the perfect time to step up and help build the nation once more.

Thirdly, I must be a purveyor of unity and patriotism. Regardless of who our president is, my allegiance must always be with our country and of course to God. For the sake of my children and family, I will serve as a model of good citizenship and love for fellowmen. I should always espouse being a Filipino in spite of all the negativities being perpetrated online.

As I always believe so, there is a reason for everything. Let us not judge a person without giving him or her a chance to prove himself or herself first. God can only do that. As for us men, we are all sinners in the littlest or biggest mistakes that we have committed in our lives.

I call for unity and cooperation under our new elected officials in the national and local government units, and also pray for God's continuing sovereignty and protection.
