THE Philippines suffered its first loss after bowing down to host Vietnam, 2-1, in the women’s football tournament of the 31st Southeast Asian Games on May 11 at the Cam Pha Stadium in Quang Ninh, Vietnam.
The World Cup-bound Filipinas had an early lead with a 15th-minute goal by midfielder Tahnai Annis.
Vietnam, the 32nd ranked women’s squad, scored the equalizer before the end of the first half with a goal by Nguyen Dung.
Tran Trang put Vietnam ahead with a goal in the 50th minute.
The Philippines still remained at the top despite the defeat and awaited the result of the match between Vietnam and Cambodia for positioning in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the Philippines bagged five more medals in the SEA Games in kurash and rowing.
The Philippines won two silver medals and two bronze medals in kurash and a bronze medal in Rowing.
Sydney Sy won a silver in the women’s -87 KG category, while Charmea Quelino also bagged a silver medal in the -52 KG division. Renzo Caseñas won the bronze in the Men’s -81 KG division, while Al Llamas also won a bronze medal in the -60 KG category.
As of press time, the Philippines in fourth place with 11 medals—a gold, five silvers and five bronze medals.
Host Vietnam is at the top with 27 medals (10 gold, 7 silver, 10 bronze), followed by Malaysia with 18 medals (9 gold, 3 silver, 6 bronze) and Indonesia with seven medals (3 gold, 4 silver).
