Dapitan mayor wins as Zamboanga del Norte governor

ZAMBOANGA. DAPITAN City Mayor and Zamboanga del Norte governor-elect Rosalina Jalosjos announced Friday, May 13, that she will deliver a new brand of service to the people of the province once she will assume office on July 1.

Jalosjos garnered 249,956 votes, defeating former Dipolog City mayor Evelyn Uy, who gathered 237,530 in gubernatorial race in May 9 national and local elections.

"I assure the people of Zamboanga del Norte that a new brand of service will be felt by all when I assume as governor come July 1," Jalosjos said.

"It will be more for the people like what I always do as Mayor in Dapitan City. Misyon ko ang paghatod ug serbisyo (My mission is to serve)," she added.

Monday's national and local election was the second political bout of Jalosjos and Uy.

Jalosjos defeated Uy in the 2019 mayoralty race in Dapitan City.

Uy's husband, Roberto, is the incumbent and three-term governor of Zamboanga del Norte.

Meanwhile, former Zamboanga del Norte first district representative Seth Frederick Jalosjos defeated Roberto in the mayoralty race in Dapitan City.

The mayor-elect of Dapitan City is the nephew of Jalosjos, the governor-elect.

Seth Frederick garnered 33,031 votes, defeating Roberto with a margin of 5,895. Roberto garnered 27,136 votes.

The May 9 national and local elections was the second political bout of Seth Frederick and Roberto. The first was in 2019 gubernatorial race wherein Roberto won over Seth Frederick.

Seth Frederick's running mate, Al Sy, won over Jimboy Chan in the vice mayoralty race in Dapitan City.

All of Seth Fredrick's candidates for councilors also won in Dapitan City.

They are Bing Balisado, Divine Patilano, Mitzie Dulawan, Modess Malayao, Ronie Jarapan, Joseph Ryan Agolong, Noel Sardane, Tesiong Bayron, lawyer Claver Pajaren, and Vicoy Hamoy. (SunStar Zamboanga)
