A 25-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a wing van along the national road in Sitio Canamucan 2, Barangay Magay, Compostela town, northern Cebu on early Saturday morning, May 14, 2022.
Lieutenant Samuel Gerra Negro, chief of Compostela Police Station, identified the victim as Elvie Tinojon, a production worker and a resident of Villa Angelina in Barangay Sabang, Danao City.
Traffic investigator William Jadol told SunStar Cebu that Tinojon was driving a motorcycle further north when she was hit by the wing van coming from the opposite direction and driven by a certain Salundro Gulisao, 43, of San Remegio, northern Cebu.
Jadol said Gulisao reportedly did not notice the incoming motorcycle driven by Tinojon when he overtook a truck upon reaching the area in Sitio Canamucan.
Police said Tinojon was thrown off the motorcycle due to the impact and was brought to Danao Provincial Hospital for treatment but was declared dead by attending physician at 7:55 a.m.
The suspect was brought to the Compostela Police Station after the incident.
Negro, however, said that the two parties have agreed for an amicable settlement.
"The suspect should compensate what the family wanted, like shouldering all the expenses especially the burial of their family member," Negro said.
Both parties will appear at the Compostela Traffic Office Sunday morning, May 15, 2022, to finalize their settlement. (GDC, TPT)
