LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan has warned his constituents of an alleged scammer who identified himself or herself as the mayor’s staff that would facilitate the reception of the prizes won from his online contest.

In his Facebook post on Sunday, May 15, 2022, Chan advised the Oponganons not to believe the person who is using the mobile number: 0936-432-7234 who would probably call them and identify himself as his staff.

"Ilang sulti nakadaog daw mo sa akong pa-premyo online, pero para imo kining makuha, kinahanglan nga mohatag ka sa OTP (One Time Password) sa imong GCash account," he said, adding that this is not true and is a big scam.

Chan alleged that such a person would only use your OTP just to get access to your account and steal all your money from GCash.

He clarified that he had not conducted an online contest amid the election ban.

"Dili kita patunto sa maong modus kay dili sayon ang pagpangita og kwarta karong panahona," he said.

With this, Chan further urged his constituents to refrain from entertaining the alleged scammer, adding that he had already reported the mobile number to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to trace the location that would lead to the arrest of the person behind this.
