FRANKLIN Ferdie Yee edged out Mark Mahinay in a dashing neck-to-neck finish in the 2022 Cebu City Summer Run at the Cebu City Sports Center on Sunday, May 15, 2022.

Yee crossed the finish line in 16 minutes and 39 seconds, just a step ahead of Mahinay to win the men’s 5-kilometer crown in a thrilling sprint finish between Cebu’s two rising runners.

Mahinay settled for second place, while Kenyan Josep Mururi nabbed third place with a time of 16:52.

Lizane Abella of Spectrum Runners Club reigned in the women’s 5K after clocking in 21:21. Junior triathlete Nicole del Rosario came second in 21:47 and Jasrain Noval finished third in 22:09.

Spectrum’s Asia Paraase stamped her class in the longer distance, winning the women’s 10K crown in 42:17. Cherry Andrin clocked in 43:03 and Rue Reinhart Pañibon timed in 48:21 to take second and third places, respectively.

Veteran Kenyan runner Eric Chepsiror ruled the men’s 10K race in 33:10. Prince Joey Lee took second place in 33:17 and Jerome Casinillo was third at 34:24.

Multisport athlete and TikTok influencer Joland Olmila emerged as the fastest runner in the men’s 3K, breasting the tape in 9:21. Darwin Lucaylucay (9:23), Ionmar Salingsing (9:25) finished as runners-up.

Jessica Caser (9:43) won the women’s 3K, Devie Kaye Obcial (9:50) came second and Jessel Ochia (10:12) was third.

The run organized by Coco Running and supported by the Cebu City Sports Commission under the leadership of chairman John Pages had a separate category for the grassroots athletes of Cebu City.

Renz Parong (23:40) and Jheremae Abalo (29:36) were awarded champions in the men’s and women’s Grassroots 5K, respectively.

John Lloyd Leyson (24:43) and John James Abalos (25:39) finished second and third in the men’s division, while Mae Anne Mejo (33:44) and Mitchloni Dinauanao (37:56) were runners up in the distaff side.

Erian Culango (12:38) won the women’s 3K and Cris Maverick Juarez (18:15) topped the mixed 3K for 8-Under.

More than 1,100 runners suited up for the fun run, which was only the second running event held in Cebu City since the Covid-19 pandemic.
