Hog raiser nabbed for gun possession

POLICEMEN raided the residence of a hog raiser in Kabanakalan City, Negros Occidental around 5 a.m. Friday, May 12, and seized an unlicensed firearm.

Deputy Chief Lieutenant Dennis Melgarejo, deputy chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said they trooped the residence of Jonel Magada, 45, of Sitio Tinago in the city’s Barangay Orong, on the strength of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 61 Judge Rodney Magbanua 61.

Melgarejo said prior to the raid, they received complaints coming from Magada’s neighbors that the latter was illegally discharging his firearm.

During the search, the police seized a Colt .45 caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with six live ammunition, another magazine of the same firearm and two fired cartridge cases of .45 caliber pistol, police records showed.

Another two fired cartridge cases for the .38 caliber revolver were also found, Melgarejo said, adding that Magada failed to present a license for the seized firearm.

The police official also said that Magada told them that he was keeping the firearm for self-protection.

He will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591 or illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
