THE Philippines added nine more gold medals in the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam over the weekend.
Olympian Ernest Obiena won the gold in the Men’s Pole Vault after setting a SEA Games record of 5.40 meters. Another Olympian, Carlos Yulo bagged his second gold medal after topping the Men’s Artistic Floor event in Gymnastics, beating Singapore’s Terry Wei-An Tay and Vietnam’s Trinh Hai Khan. Kim Mangrobang also won her second gold in the tournament after dominating the Women’s Individual Duathlon event, beating Malaysia’s Tahira Zaid and Indonesia’s Zhara Aprillia.
The Philippines also got two gold medals in the Jujitsu event. Margarita Ochoa won the Women’s -48 KG event, while Annue Ramirez topped the Women’s -62 KG event.
Samantha Cantanan beat Singapore’s Maxine Wong to win the gold in the Women’s Individual Foil event of Fencing.
The team of Aleah Finnegan, Chiara Andrew, Charlie Manzano, Lucia Guttierez, Kursten Lopez and Ma. Christina Onofre-Loberanes won the gold medal in the Women’s Artistic Team event in Gymnastics. Finnegan also grabbed her second gold medal after winning the Women’s Artistic Vault event.
Agatha Wong beat Vietnamese Tran Thi Minh Huyen and Tran Thi Kieu Trang for the gold medal in the Women’s Taolu Taijijian event in Wushu.
Wong also bagged a silver medal in the Women’s Taolu Taijiquan event.
Kyla Richardson won a silver in the Woneb’s 200 meters event, while Hokkett delos Santos also grabbed the silver in the Men’s Pole Vault event. The other silver medalists were Carlo Angelo Pena in the Men’s -62 KG in Jujitsu, Noelito Jose Jr. in the Men’s Individual Epee in Fencing, Finnegan in the Women’s Artistic All-Around in Gymnastics, and Nathaniel Perez in the Men’s Individual Foil in Fencing.
The Philippines is now in third place in the medal tally with a total of 67 medals from 16 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 32 bronze medals.
Vietnam is still at the top with 102 medals, while Thailand is second with 63 medals.
