POLICE arrested two men who are facing rape charges in Mandaue City courts in separate operations.

The two suspects had been included in the list of wanted personalities with pending criminal cases by the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO). SunStar is withholding the names of the two men to protect their victims.

The first arrest happened on Friday, May 13, 2022, at the port in Danao City, northern Cebu.

The 42-year-old suspect, accused of raping his 13-year-old daughter, was caught by the team led by Lieutenant Colonel Jose Rovic Allosada Villarin.

According to the MCPO, the suspect was captured based on the warrant of arrest issued on May 13, 2022 by Mandaue City Regional Trial Court (RTC) 7 Branch 6 Judge Maria Dee A. Seares.

Before his arrest, the suspect had returned to his home province, Leyte, to vote in the general elections last May 9. When Villarin's team learned about this, it coordinated with the Coast Guard to carry out the arrest after he disembarked in Danao City.

The suspect was brought to MCPO Station 4 in Barangay Casuntingan for detention.

He will be tried in court for violating Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

On Monday, May 16, Villarin's team caught a motorcycle-for-hire driver, 32, in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City. The suspect is accused of raping an adult woman.

Villarin's team served the warrant of arrest issued on October 7, 2021 by Mandaue City RTC 7 Branch 83 Judge Allan Franciso S. Garciano.

The suspect reportedly transferred to different places to hide after knowing that he had a pending arrest warrant.

He was brought to the City Investigation and Detection Management Unit of the MCPO for detention.

The suspect will stand trial for violating Republic Act 8353, or The Anti-Rape Law of 1997.

Both suspects will be brought to courts for the scheduling of their trial and for their transfer to the city jail. (HIC)
