Heavy rains destroy P10M agricultural crops

THE agriculture sector suffered P10 million worth of damage following the heavy rains, which hit this city on May 10, 2022.

City Agriculturist Carmencita Sanchez said Tuesday, May 17, 2022 that the total damages to agricultural crops that include rice, corn, high value commercial crops (HVCC), fishery products and seaweed has reached P10,062,252.50.

Sanchez said that the hardest hit remains the fisheries sector, logging a total loss of P6,166,842.5 for seaweeds, bagus, shrimp, and crab commodities.

This is followed by assorted vegetables with P2,290,335, rice at P1,562,625, and, corn at P42,450, according to Sanchez.

She said that the damage spanned 583.95 hectares of agricultural farmlands, and affected 697 farmers in the villages of Licomo, Vitali, Buenavista, Muti, Tictapul, Limaong, Tumitus, Mangusu, and Taguiti. (SunStar Zamboanga)
