ART appreciation starts from a very young age, just like the boys and girls who joined the Cuenca Summer Art Workshop currently held on the 1st floor of Ayala Malls Capitol Central, handled by artists couple Anthony and Sugar Tonogbanua.

Children aging five years and above participated in the said art summer workshop to learn oil pastels, watercolor painting, sketching, essential anime, cartooning, and acrylic painting on canvass.

Tonogbanua said this is a month-long workshop for the kids, which kicked off on May 16, 2022 and will end on June 17, 2022. She said it is easy and fun to teach kids the various kinds of painting, and they don't run out of excitement and curiosity.

They love what they are doing, and they are eager to know from one skill to another, which can be engaging on the part of the teacher, Tonugbanua also said.

She also said that children indeed love to draw and color their artworks and always excited to come for the next class.

Children can sometimes express their emotions through art, thus, the art camp have different courses to help them improve their skills.

As to whether who owns the idea of getting these kids into an art workshop, Tonugbanua said the kids always ask their parents to bring them to an art class or workshop as kids now have their penchant for artworks and mostly appreciate

visuals.

"Mostly, the kids are interested in going into an art class with the support of their parents," she said.

The Cuenca Art Studio has been teaching kids since 2004 but coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic slowed them down from continuing the art class considering the vulnerability of everyone to the virus, especially when the vaccines were not yet available then.

Now, this is the first face-to-face workshop they are holding with the kids.

"By God's grace, we are now back to our face-to-face classes," she said.

Cuenca Summer Art Workshop schedule of classes is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30-12:00 noon; 1:30 -3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
