THE Cebu Provincial Government will continue banning the shipment of livestock from Luzon and other parts of Mindanao, as well as intensify border controls in seaports and airports in Cebu.
This as reelected Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia wants to continue implementing their measures as a way to protect Cebu’s pork and poultry industry from the effects of the African swine fever (ASF) and the Avian Influenza or bird flu that has affected much of Luzon, and other parts of Mindanao and Eastern Visayas.
Garcia said she has no plans of lifting the ban amid the ongoing threat of both diseases.
The governor issued Executive Order 9-A to extend the ban on live poultry for another 45 days starting April 19, 2022.
“Tight controls will continue in our borders against ASF that has hit more than 50 provinces,” Garcia said.
Cebu is one of the largest producers of pork products in the country.
The entry of poultry and its byproducts from the mentioned places is also prohibited due to bird flu.
“Sa bird flu, we will continue preventing the entry of live birds... I will not risk it,” the governor said.
Currently, the Province of Cebu remains free of ASF and bird flu.
