THE Cebu Provincial Government will soon distribute school supplies and hold feeding program for the schoolchildren from kindergarten to K-12 during the resumption of face-to-face classes in public schools in August.

These school supplies include notebooks, pad paper, pencils, ballpens and crayons.

“I am glad that we will now be back to face to face classes and we are now readying for the opening of classes in August nga ang tanan natong (that all our) kinder, grade 1, grade 2, grade 3 up to K12 makadawat og (will receive) school supplies and naa nay (there are) notebooks, pad paper, ballpen and for the kindergarten naay crayola ato nang i-distribute karong (we will distribute these in) August,” Garcia said.

Aside from the school supplies, the province will also conduct feeding program for the schoolchildren in line with its Sugbusog program, tapping the schools in promoting backyard gardening to combat hunger and malnutrition.

“I am also thinking of integrating the Sugbusog Program to a feeding program for our schoolchildren. They are asking me unsaon mani nimong dako kaayo ang atong (what will you do with our large) SEF (Special Education Fund). Well, primarily I want to spend it on our children, I want to spend it on our students. I'm looking for that program but I want now to make it evolve into a school feeding program kay at least ang ako unta no child should go hungry,” Garcia said.

The Sugbusog Program was launched in 2020 to help the Cebuanos generate enough food supply during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

In April 2021, Garcia revealed her plan to implement the feeding program in schools using the plants and other vegetables planted in the garden under the Sugbusog program for their food menu. (ANV, TPT)
