Gilas Pilipinas keep on rolling with rout of Singapore in 31st SEA Games

The Gilas Pilipinas men’s basketball team rolled past Singapore, 88-37, to nab their third win in a row in the 31st Southeast Asian Games men’s basketball competitionon Wednesday at the Thanh Tri Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The outcome of this match was hardly in doubt as the Gilas kept the pressure on early and didn’t let up until the game’s final buzzer.

Cebuano wingman Roger Pogoy led the onslaught with 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. He also anchored the country’s solid defensive stand with three steals. The Gilas hounded the passing lanes all game long and came away with 17 steals.

Youngster Francis “Lebron” Lopez continued his breakout party in this tournament as he tallied 18 markers, making all seven of his shots from the field. He almost had a perfect game had he not missed one of his five free-throws.

Jaydee Tungcab and Matthew Wright scored 11 points apiece while June Mar Fajardo narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.

Next up for the Gilas is hosts Vietnam on Thursday.
