221 families affected by fire get cash aid

THE city government of Zamboanga released Wednesday, May 18, 2022, the amount of P922,500 as financial assistance to the 221 families displaced by fire that occurred in four villages during the first quarter of 2022.

The release of the financial aid is part of the continuous social welfare services of the local government.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar led the distribution Wednesday afternoon at the City Hall conference room together with the personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the City Treasurer’s Office.

Of the 221 displaced families granted the cash aid, 175 were victims of the February 15 and 17 fire incidents in San Roque village; 39 were affected by the January 10 conflagration in Tetuan village; six displaced by the March 1 incident in Labuan village while one was affected by the February 21 fire in Patalon village.

Salazar said that the cash assistance ranged from P1,500 to P5,000 depending on the degree of damage incurred as well type of ownership—house owner, house sharer, and house boarder.

Salazar said that a total of 133 families received P5,000 each; 82 received P3,000, five received P2,000, and one received P1,500.

The cash assistance, facilitated by the CSWDO, is part of the City Government’s regular Assistance to Individuals and Families in Crisis Situation (AICS).

Salazar said the amount is intended to help alleviate the plight of the displaced families. (SunStar Zamboanga)
