Misamis Oriental still bird flu-free

THE Provincial Veterinary Office of Misamis Oriental assured that the province remains "bird flu free," but it will still continue its ban on the entry of poultry and its by-products from Luzon, Soccsksargen, and Davao del Sur.

Provincial Veterinary Dr. Benjamin Resma said that the province also bans the entry of poultry animals from Cebu, Bohol, and iIloilo.

Resma also clarified that chicken meat in the province is safe to consume.

The Provincial Veterinary Office was also able to conduct an Avian Influenza Surveillance, together with the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Northern Mindanao's Regulatory Division, in Pangasinan, Gingoog City; Taytay, El Salvador City; Baybay, Alubijid; Barra, Opol; and Sta. Cruz and Poblacion in Magsaysay. The results of the surveillance in these areas showed that they are negative of avian influenza virus antibody.
