THE Mandaue City Government is set to distribute cash aid for eligible senior citizens who are 60 years old and above from May 23 to 27, 2022.

Mandaue City has at least 24,000 registered senior citizens who are qualified to receive P8,000 in annual financial assistance given in two tranches, the first half in May and the other half in December.

Qualified senior citizens will receive P4,000 starting Monday.

City Administrator Jamaal James Calipayan said the cash aid has been prepared for distribution.

For elderly residents who are already bedridden, Calipayan said City personnel will deliver the financial assistance to their homes.

However, a representative may be authorized to claim the aid at the distribution site. The representative must present the form of authorization available at the Office of the Senior Citizen with the senior citizen’s ID and medical certificate of the bedridden elderly, according to Calipayan.

The partial distribution of the cash aid was postponed due to the election ban which prohibited local government units from spending public funds within 45 days prior to the Election Day, from March 25 to May 8, 2022.

Distribution for able-bodied senior citizens will be via cash card through LandBank automated teller machines and other ATMs, and cash payout from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at each of the city’s 27 barangays.

For the elderly residents getting the assistance via cash payout, they must bring one valid ID together with their senior citizen ID, Calipayan said.

Senior citizens who will fail to claim their cash assistance on the said dates may visit the City Treasurer’s Office to claim it from May 30 to 31. The cash aid unclaimed thereafter will be forfeited and returned to the City’s coffers for liquidation and redistribution for other cash assistance.

Heirs of senior citizens who suddenly died before the distribution dates but have been validated to receive the cash assistance may still claim the aid. They must bring the elderly’s death certificate and ID; if the claimant is a representative, one must present an authorization from the heir of the deceased.

Other cash assistance

Meanwhile, Calipayan assured that the cash assistance for Typhoon Odette (Rai) for both partially and severely affected victims will immediately follow right after the distribution for seniors.

Calipayan said they have started to distribute assistance from February to March amounting to P5,000 to over 90 percent or 12,000 out of 13,000 families severely affected by the typhoon. The distribution was also postponed due to the election spending ban.

Distribution of the P3,000 cash aid for the partially affected victims (about 47,000 families) and for the remaining 1,000 severely affected families will resume this month or by the first week of June.

It will be the same case for the P5,000 fuel subsidy that will be given to 1,700 legitimate tricycle drivers. The cash distribution for the drivers will be handled by the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue.
