Smuggled cigarettes seized in Bataan town

AUTHORITIES recently seized smuggled cigarettes in Limay, Bataan.

The joint operation was conducted by the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Bataan and Philippine National Police (PNP).

The BOC Enforcement and Security Service reportedly received information regarding the alleged transportation of illegal drugs onboard a container van.

Upon inspection of the container van, BOC personnel found a 1x20 container with estimated 400 master cases of smuggled Gem cigarettes.

PDEA conducted K9 sweeping inside the said container but found no traces of illegal drugs.

Subject cigarettes and truck were secured by the ESS Personnel and personalities.

Individuals onboard the container van were subjected to investigation and inquest proceedings for possible violation of Section 1113 of Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The BOC, under the leadership of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, assured the public that it will continue to be vigilant in protecting the country against the proliferation of illicit goods.
