Cebu City’s positivity rate remains under 1% for over 2 months

THE daily positivity rate of coronavirus disease cases in Cebu City remains low and still within the threshold set by the World Health Organization.

Cebu City’s positivity rate has been under one percent for over two months already, according to Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Having a positivity rate of less than five percent for the last two weeks is one of the indicators that Covid-19 infection is under control.

Despite this, Garganera reminded the public not to be complacent and should continuously observe the minimum health protocols such as wearing of face masks and observing social distancing.

“Again, let us not be complacent. Kaya nato ni busa amping ug ampo kanunay (We can do this so let us take care of ourselves and pray always),” Garganera said on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

On Saturday, May 21, the EOC tested 675 individuals and only four of them tested positive for Covid-19.

This brought the daily positivity rate on that day to only 0.59 percent.

Active Covid-19 cases in the city were only 23 on Saturday.

The EOC data also showed that the critical care occupancy rate of hospitals in the city remains low.

As of May 21, the occupancy rate of private hospitals was at 0.88 percent, while public hospitals only logged an occupancy rate of 0.86 percent.

The number of barangays with recorded Covid-19 transmission increased to 14 on Saturday from only 11 last May 20. This means that there were 66 barangays in Cebu City with no recorded transmission of the virus.
