Caap: Aviation safety depends on excellent training

A TOP official of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) said aviation safety depends on the excellent training of students.

Captain Jim Sydiongco, director general of Caap, said during the ATO Summit inside Clark Freeport on May 20 that the safety of the Philippine aviation system depends on excellent training of student pilots and aviation personnel.

“Let us train our students to be excellent and get the most out of their training. I encourage each one of you to maintain your inspiration and commitment to do better each day. Because the safety of our system in Philippine aviation depends on excellent training. It depends on each one of you," Sydiongco told the participants at the summit.

Also present during the event were Caap Deputy Director General for Operations and Flight Service Inspectorate Service (FSIS) Captain Donaldo Mendoza, Training Organizations Certification and Inspection Division (TOCID) head Captain Victor Aguilar, and Licensing and Certification Department (LCD)

chief Captain Huberto Ramos.

The speakers included Flight Operations and Safety Inspector (FOSI) Captain Felipe Timola who discussed Quality System and Pilot Examiner and Designated Operations Inspector Captain Geronimo Hernandez who delivered a lecture on Quality Management.

Following the lecture was a series of workshops and open forums, joined by a total of 75 attendees from aviation training organizations approved and accredited by CAAP.

Sydiongco mentioned that it is important for ATOs to maintain focused and grounded on training and developing the competencies of their students, equipping them with the capacity to navigate through all kinds of conditions.

Earlier this week, Sydiongco participated in the Changi Aviation Summit (CAS) held in Singapore where ministers, civil aviation regulators, chief executives of airlines and other captains of the civil aviation industry from 45 countries gathered.

The CAS participants exchange views on key issues, such as recovery of the aviation sector from the Covid-19

pandemic, aviation sustainability, and the environment.
