Tagum City awards centenarian P100,000

THE City Government of Tagum awarded a centenarian from Barangay Madaum P100,000 on May 19, 2022.

Babu Berina Tauna, who was born on April 10, 1922 and is a member of the Kagan Tribe in Tagum, is the recipient of the cash gift in line with the City Ordinance No. 818 Series of 2017, also known as the Centenary Senior Citizens Ordinance.

The monetary award was personally handed by Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon and Vice Mayor Eva Lorraine Estabillo during a visit to the home of Tauna and her family.

The cash gift from the City Government of Tagum is only given to senior citizens celebrating their centenarian or 100th birthday. Tauna is set to receive another P100,000 monetary gift from the national office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Under the law, senior citizens reaching 100 years old, whether living in the Philippines or abroad, are entitled to the said cash gift, a letter of felicitation from the Philippine President, and other additional benefits to honor Filipino centenarians under Republic Act. No. 10868 or the Centenarians Acts of 2016.
