A CENTENARIAN got P100,000 cash assistance from the Mandaue City Government last Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Eleuteria Porlas, also known as “Inse Teria” from Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City, celebrated her 100th birthday on April 18.

She was born on April 18, 1922.

A delight was seen on her face when the Mandaue City Government, represented by Mayor Jonas Cortes, Councilor and chairman of the Committee on Senior Affairs Tingsol Cabahug, and Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca)-Mandaue City head Diosdado Suico, personally handed her the assistance.

Under Republic Act 10868, also known as the Centenarians Act of 2016, senior citizens who reach the age of 100 should be honored by giving them P100,000 as a “centenarian gift.”

Porlas’ family and loved ones were thankful for the cash assistance, saying it would be a big help to Inse Teria's daily needs.

Aside from Porlas, another centenarian, Babu Berina Tauna from Tagum, also received on Thursday, May 19, the P100,000 cash assistance.

Tauna is a member of the Kagan Tribe in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. (HIC)
