A 47-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed in Sitio Cabil-isan, Barangay Taytay, Badian town, southwest Cebu on Sunday evening, May 22, 2022.

Staff Sergeant Dennis Sun of Badian Police Station identified the victim as Leonardo Paracuelles Rodiño, a charcoal maker and a resident of Sitio Cabil-isan.

The suspect, on the other hand, was identified as Junrey Dinolan Laurel, 35, a farmer from Sitio Cabil-isan.

Sun told SunStar Cebu that around 10:40 p.m. Sunday, they responded to the area after receiving a phone call from a concerned citizen about the stabbing incident.

Sun said the victim was lying down inside his house with stab wounds in the left portion of his body when they arrived at the scene.

The victim became unconscious around 1 a.m. the following day due to the continuous bleeding and was brought to Badian District Hospital but later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment.

Larabel Escoto Torres, live-in partner of the victim, told police that Rodiño and Laurel were having a heated argument prior to the incident.

She said Laurel went home then came back and stabbed Rodiño without any provocation.

Torres said Rodiño and his neighbor Laurel were at odds with each other.

The suspect, who is now under police custody, will be facing frustrated murder charges, which would be filed against him by the family of the victim. (GDC, TPT)
