THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Cebu City will start releasing the honorarium and allowances of poll workers who participated in the May 9 elections.

The honorarium and allowances will be released on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, said Marilou Paredes, Comelec Cebu City South District acting election officer.

Paredes said the distribution will take place at the conference room of the Comelec Cebu Provincial Office located at the Cebu Provincial Capitol legislative building.

Paredes said the teachers who served as chairpersons of the electoral boards (EB) are entitled to an honorarium and allowance worth P10,000 while the poll clerk and third member will get P9,000 each.

But Paredes clarified that the amount that the poll workers will receive is less than this since it is still subject to 20 percent tax.

The tax deduction for teachers from the private schools will also be less compared to those in the public schools, Paredes added.

Paredes said they will first disburse the money for the EB chairpersons on Tuesday, while the distribution for the poll clerks and third members will be scheduled on Wednesday, May 25, to prevent congestion in the distribution area.

Upon claiming their honoraria and allowances, poll workers need to present a duly accomplished Bureau of Internal Revenue Form 2316, appointment papers, and their government issued-IDs, she added.

According to the Cebu City Schools Division, around 1,600 teachers served in the EBs during the national and local elections last May 9.

Paredes previously said that for the south district alone, the Comelec had allocated P25 million for the payment of the honoraria and allowances of the poll workers.
