HEALTH officials in Mandaue City have gathered wrigglers or mosquito larvae in two barangays where dengue cases are prevalent.
Personnel from the Mandaue City Health Office, along with sanitary inspectors and barangay health workers, conducted specimen gathering in Barangays Mantuyong and Subangdaku on Monday morning, May 23, 2022, to determine if the larvae they found are from the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which carries the dengue virus.
Local health officials have conducted the activity in line with the city’s continuous effort to prevent a possible dengue outbreak in the city.
Percy Mendoza-Pongasi, the city’s dengue coordinator, said the collection of larvae samples is an essential process for them to contact-trace the route of dengue in the two communities.
Pongasi added that the activity also aims to monitoring the dengue situation in both barangays and provide adequate solutions to stop it from spreading to other areas.
Aside from larvae collection, health personnel also conducted misting and put larvicide in stagnant waters to kill mosquito larvae.
Mandaue City health personnel also provided a house-to-house awareness to the citizens and taught them basic precautionary measures to protect their families against the dengue threat.
As of May 7, 2022, Mandaue City had 214 dengue cases with two deaths.
