CASES of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Eastern Visayas have dipped to 25 or 0.04 percent while the total recoveries have reached 61,412 (98.89 percent), as of Monday, May 23, 2022.

The regional health department said that the region’s total number of Covid-19 cases is 62,105, while the total number of deaths is 668 (0.34 percent).

“With the downgraded alert level status in the different parts of the region and the gradual decline of our Covid-19 cases in the region, let us continue to be vigilant and practice the minimum public health standards in all settings,” the Department of Health (DOH) in the region said.

“As we go through a more lenient implementation of our border restrictions which cause our mobility to increase, it is very important to still practice our health protocols,” it added.

From May 16 to May 22, 2022, 26 new cases were recorded out of 2,230 laboratory test results.

At least 2,221 samples were tested in the four Covid-19 laboratories of the Region--the Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC), Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL), Ormoc Molecular Diagnostic Center (OMDC), and Salvacion Oppus Yniguez Memorial Provincial Hospital – Molecular Laboratory (SOYMPHML).

Nine samples were also submitted to Philippine Red Cross Molecular Laboratory (PRCML).

This represents a 1.30 percent positivity rate, according to DOH.

As of Monday, there are two severe cases admitted to the hospitals due to Covid-19.

Out of 49 intensive care unit (ICU) beds intended for patients with Covid-19, seven (14.29 percent) are occupied.

Meanwhile, 20.83 percent of 1,200 non-ICU Covid-19 beds are currently being used.

According to the regional health department, a total of 2,700,879 individuals, or 68.7 percent of the region’s target population have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 while 286,901 individuals have already received their booster shots.

“On the other hand, 69.2 percent of our target A2 population have already received their primary series,” the DOH said.

“The public is also reminded that intensified vaccination roll out against Covid-19 is still being conducted all over the region. Vaccines are still our best defense against the virus and its variants,” it added. (SunStar Philippines)
