AFTER quite a while, the Bacolod City Council will once again hold an in-person session Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Reelected Councilor Cindy Rojas said that they unanimously approved on May 18 the resolution requesting Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran’s office to allow the face-to-face (F2F) session since Bacolod is now under Alert Level 1 in terms of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) transmission.

Rojas said Bacolod City has recorded single-digit of Covid-19 cases since last month, and it has a total of 27, 987 Covid-19 cases as of May 22, 2022.

Of the number, 27, 067 patients already recovered with 45 active cases and 862 deaths.

Rojas noted that based on the data of the Department of Health (DOH) in Western Visayas, Bacolod City has a total of 489, 130 fully vaccinated individuals, which is 52 percent higher than the target 321, 665 population eligible for vaccination.

“We have been conducting virtual sessions via the Zoom application since August 2020 so for me, it’s the right time to return to in-person session,” Rojas said.

She said minimum health protocols will be strictly observed like wearing of face masks and social distancing, adding that they will also limit the audience inside the session hall.

Rojas disclosed that the city councilors are only allowed to have one technical staff member.

The city council's regular session is held every Wednesday.

Reelected Councilor Al Victor Espino also earlier expressed support for the conduct of an in-person session at the Bacolod Government Center.

“It’s better to have an F2F session because the new set of members of the city council will assume their post on June 30, 2022,” he said.
