A SUSPECTED gunman-for-hire was gunned down by police after he was caught shooting dead a 48-year-old real estate agent on Tuesday dawn, May 24, 2022, in Barangay Luyang, San Remigio town, northern Cebu.

MSgt. Gregorio Geramis of the San Remigio Police Station identified the fatalities as Verlito Marianito, 54, a suspected gun-for-hire living in Barangay Victoria, in the same town; and real estate agent Franklin Sayson, a resident of Barangay Estaca in Compostela town.

After the incident, police personnel from San Remigio town and Bogo City arrested Grace Fable, the alleged mastermind of the incident, and Rowen Cose, Marianito’s cohort, who served as their getaway driver.

Geramis told SunStar Cebu that the incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Sayson was onboard his motorcycle and had stopped at Luyang to attend the wake of a friend when two men onboard another motorcyle approached him.

Geramis said Marianito disembarked from the motorcycle, approached the victim and shot him several times.

Cpl. Laong-laang Cane Toring of the Bogo City Police Station, who happened to be at the wake of the relative of his wife, immediately responded and fired at the suspects.

Marianito died instantly, while Cose, who was hit in the butt, left his motorcycle and fled.

Cose, however, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. of the same day during a hot pursuit operation conducted by operatives of the the San Remigio and Bogo City police stations.

According to Maj. Ian Macatangay, chief of the San Remigio Police Station, Cose has identified Fable as the mastermind during police interrogation.

Cose also admitted to the police that they were paid P25,000 by Fable in exchange for the real estate agent’s life.

Macatangay said Fable got mad at the victim, who did not give him a commission from the sale of a property worth P13.5 million.

Fable was arrested by the police following Cose’s confession.

Fable, who is Toring’s mother-in-law, was also attending the wake when the incident occured.

Prior to the shooting incident, Fable had allegedly texted the suspects to come to the wake where she and Sayson agreed to meet. (GPL, GDC, TPT)
