FIVE barangays in Mandaue City were awarded by the City Government for their exemplary performance when it comes to fully vaccinating their residents against Covid-19.

The five barangays -- Centro, Basak, Bakilid, Looc and Ibabao -- were awarded during the city’s Bakuna Awards held at the Mandaue City Hall on Friday, May 20, 2022. The city organized the awards in partnership with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi) to recognize barangays who have made best practices when it comes to vaccinating their residents against Covid-19.

Centro ranked first among the five top-performing barangays in Mandaue City after they were able to fully vaccinate around 140.48 percent of its eligible population. The barangay received P50,000 for its efforts.

The other awardees were Basak, which was able to fully vaccinate around 116.89 percent of its eligible population; Bakilid, 110.50 percent; Looc, 80.27 percent; and Ibabao, 79.59 percent.

Basak got P45,000, Bakilid got P40,000, Looc got P35,000 and Ibabao got P30,000.

In an interview, Barangay Centro chief Ignacio Cortes said they attributed their high vaccination rate to their continuous information drive.

Centro’s method was also done in Basak. The village’s chief, Felipe Diano, said to increase their vaccination rate, they continued to provide awareness about vaccine’s benefits to their constituents to get themselves vaccinated.

Both Cortes and Diano said they plan to use the cash prize for the improvement of their health facilities.
