BACOLOD City Mayor-elect Alfredo Benitez along with reelected congressman Greg Gasataya and three councilors-elect took oath before Barangay Singcang-Airport Captain Rosinie Distrito at the village’s gymnasium Thursday morning, May 26, 2022.

The councilors-elect who took their oaths included Jason Villarosa, Vladimir Gonzalez and Simplicia Distrito, all of Team Asenso led by Benitez.

With 171,893 votes, Benitez defeated outgoing Mayor Evelio Leonardia of Grupo Progreso who only obtained 107,447 votes during the May 9, 2022 national and local elections.

Securing 185,470 votes, Gasataya also defeated GP’s Dan Atayde who obtained 80,591 votes, and independent candidates Nonong San Miguel with 850 votes, Romy Gustilo with 738 votes, and Willy David with 618 votes.

Benitez said they chose to take their oaths at Singcang-Airport because the barangay delivered big number of votes for the Team Asenso during the recent polls.

“We are thankful to them and as a way of gratitude, we take oath in front of them,” he said, adding that some of the councilors-elect of Team Asenso were not around because they were out-of-town.

Benitez noted that they will also conduct another formal oath-taking ceremony before the end of June, and they will invite some officials of the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, their supporters and stakeholders.

The incoming administration will assume their post on June 30, 2022.

Meanwhile, Benitez said he will form a “truth commission” to handle the previous transactions of the city government.

“They will review and audit all the transactions of the city in the spirit of the transparency,” the mayor-elect said.

The “truth commission” will be composed by several teams at thecity hall, he added.
