THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) revealed that only one person was behind the threat to bomb four areas in Cebu City that was sent via text message Thursday, May 26, 2022.

Areas threatened to be bombed were the Qimonda Building on North Reclamation Area where the Cebu City Hall of Justice is located, the Cebu City Legislative building, Carbon Market and the newly opened Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).

Court sessions and work at City Hall were suspended after the threat.

The CCPO is now coordinating with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (Racu)-Central Visayas to trace the person behind the threat that turned to be a hoax.

Lieutenant Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay, lawyer and spokesperson of the CCPO, said the messages had spread through a group chat.

Police Lieutenant Franklyn Rosario, team leader of the Explosives Ordnance Division, warned the public against spreading text messages that could bring panic to the public and interrupt their work.

Meanwhile, the CCPO said a case has already been filed against the two suspects responsible for spreading a text message that they planted a bomb at the Cebu City Hall of Justice in Qimonda building on March 9, 2022. (BBT, TPT)
