ONLY about 600 poll workers in Cebu Province who served during the recently concluded general elections have yet to recieve their honorarium and allowances.
Jerome Brillantes, acting elections supervisor of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu Provincial Office, told SunStar Cebu that as of Friday, May 27, 2022, around 95 percent of poll workers or 11,400 individuals had been able to get their honorarium.
Brillantes said the province, excluding the three highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu, had more than 12,000 poll workers that served during the May 9 elections.
He said the distribution is expected to be completed by next week as it is done per local government unit (LGU).
Brillantes said over P100 million was allocated for the honorarium and allowances of the poll workers in the province, including the support staff.
He said those who served as chairpersons of the electoral boards (EB) are entitled to an honorarium and allowance amounting to P10,000 while the poll clerk and third member are entitled to receive P9,000 each.
The amount is subject to tax deduction, Brillantes said.
Brillantes added that public school teachers will get a smaller amount compared to private school teachers since their honorarium will be subject to 20 percent tax while only seven percent will be deducted from the private school teachers’ honorarium.
Brillantes said claimants should bring the required duly accomplished Bureau of Internal Revenue form.
He said government-issued IDs may no longer be needed since they are already on the list.
