Robbery suspect dies in Angeles shootout

A ROBBERY suspect has died after he reportedly engaged in a firefight with policemen serving a warrant for his arrest in Mabalacat City.

The fatality was identified as Derrick Castillo, resident of Jaoville Compound Barangay Pandan, Angeles City.

The Mabalacat City police tagged Castillo as number 1 wanted person in the city after he was allegedly involved in a series of robbery in convenience store and betting stations in Mabalacat.

Joint elements of the Mabalacat and Angeles police were serving the arrest warrant when the suspect reportedly drew his gun and engaged in a shootout with the cops.

Lieutenant Colonel Heryl L. Bruno, Mabalacat City police chief, said he had a standing warrant of arrest in connection with criminal case for violation of Article 294 of the Revised Penal Code Robbery with Violence or Intimidation Against Person.

Judge Irineo Pindeda Pangilinan Jr of the Regional Trial Court Branch 58 in Angeles City issued the warrant on March 31, 2022 with a bail of P100,000.

Police recovered a .9mm pistol, ammos, and shabu from the suspect after the gunfight.

Bruno bared they have an ongoing manhunt operations against other wanted persons in the city.
