AFTER more than a century since it started operation, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) on B. Rodriguez Street in uptown Cebu City is now sporting a new look.

The management of VSMMC headed by its medical chief, Dr. Gerardo Aquino, unveiled the tertiary hospital’s new facade and its giant logo located at the lower left of the main building on Friday night, May 27, 2022.

“The unveiling of the new façade also entails the rebranding of the external appearance of VSMMC enhancing its reputation to the stakeholders, being true to its mantra, Quality Service, Our Pride,” the VSMMC management said in its statement.

In its aim to modernize the physical image of the biggest public hospital in the Visayas, Aquino convened the executive committee on Aug. 24, 2021 where they approved the funding for the renovation of their facade.

“Months thereafter, the VSMMC Engineering Department was able to achieve the proposed plan of the new façade, and now can be unveiled in front of the employees and stakeholders who have witnessed the infrastructure development of the institution adapting to the changes in its healthcare service delivery,” the statement read.

“This event also highlights the special skills and talents of many VSMMC employees, demonstrating that Sottonians excel not only at work but also in artistic and creative activities,” it added.

The unveiling of the new facade also coincided with the awarding of VSMMC staff in line with the Civil Service Commission’s Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence Awards.

Hospital del Sur, now VSMMC, started in 1911 and was formally established on April 11, 1913.

The name was then changed to Southern Islands Hospital with only 30 beds at its inception and later to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center on June 21, 1992 by virtue of Republic Act 7582.
