2-year-old child die in Tacloban fire

A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy died in a fire that hit Purok 4 in Barangay 77, Bañez Ville, Tacloban City, Leyte around 9 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022.

The victim was identified as Marlou Laguipo Jr.

Injured was Rayanna Balongoy, a 15-year-old student.

The fire hit the house owned by Nelia Magbagay, 59.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said fire trucks responded to the alarm at 9:07 a.m.

The blaze was placed under control at 9:17 a.m. and fire out was declared at 9:20 a.m.

Marlou Laguipo Sr., 31, said they were sleeping at the second floor of the house when the fire hit. The house was made of light materials.

They rushed outside the house when the fire broke out, but then they noticed that the two-year-old child was left inside.

They tried to enter the house but were not able to save Marlou Jr., who was sleeping at the area where the fire started.

The child's body was retrieved around 11 a.m.

The BFP is still investigating what caused the blaze. (REV/LMY)
