POLICE authorities are tracking down two persons who they believed are behind the twin bombings on Monday, May 30, 2022, that injured two people and damaged four vehicles in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.

The first explosion happened around 5:45 p.m. at the parking lot of a food chain outlet in downtown Isabela City while the second around 6:15 p.m. at the terminal of D’Biel Transport Company along Valderosa Street La Piedad village.

Police authorities tagged the two as “person of interest” as investigation continues to unmask the culprits of the twin incident.

Police Brigadier General Franco Simborio, Police Regional Office (PRO) Zamboanga Peninsula director, said that the first person of interest was behind the bomb explosion at the parking lot of the food chain outlet.

Simborio said that the motorcycle-riding male suspect was clad in yellow t-shirt and baseball cap who dropped a plastic bag at the parking of the food chain outlet and hurriedly fled based on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

The second person of interest is the sender of a package from Lamitan City to Isabela City in one of the buses of D’Biel Transport Corporation.

The sender has told the bus conductor that it will be claimed upon arrival in Isabela City but no one surface to pick up the package.

Prior to the explosion, the security guard of D’ Biel motor pool noticed an unclaimed baggage and placed it on top of an old tire at the motor pool.

Two people were injured and four vehicles of D’Biel Transport Corporation were damaged in the second explosion.

Simborio directed all units under PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula to intensify their security measures and amplify intelligence monitoring in their respective areas to ensure the public’s safety and security.

He also appealed to the public to stay calm but vigilant and to report any information on the identity or whereabouts of the perpetrators of the twin bombing in Isabela City. (SunStar Zamboanga)
