“CLEAN your surroundings and clean yourself.”

This was Lapu-Lapu Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan’s message on Wednesday, June 1, as he urged City officials to submit themselves to a drug test to have a “fresh and clean start.”

“Isip amahan sa syudad, ako ang mo-una nga magpa-drug test,” he said.

He then underwent the drug test after giving a speech.

Aside from the mayor, 308 officials and employees were tested Wednesday, June 1.

The City of Lapu-Lapu Office of Substance Abuse Prevention (Closap), headed by Garry Lao, administered the tests.

It said the rest of the employees will be tested any time after next week.

Chan also encouraged the City Hall officials and employees he met at the city hall atrium to clean their surroundings to fight and prevent dengue.

Experts said the Aedes aegypti mosquitos, the dengue virus carrier, will not survive in clean surroundings, without stagnant water.

He also urged them to voluntarily donate blood this month.

“Kabalo ta naa karong panahona ang sakit nga dengue, kay di man ta kasiguro kay basin ang atong kinabuhi ang maigo sa maong sakit... hangyo nako, panawagan sa atoang kaigsuonan nga magdonate kita og dugo,” he said.

Lapu-Lapu City will be the host of this year’s World Donor Day, which will be celebrated on June 17.

The mayor is targeting a minimum of 1,000 blood donors on June 17, higher than Legaspi City’s 700 donors.

Legaspi City bagged the highest in last year’s blood donor day figure. (PR/LMY)
