'Rowdy' US national arrested by BI agents

AGENTS of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested an overstaying American who is a subject of numerous complaints from residents in his neighborhood.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the American as 67-year-old Sunny Miller.

The foreigner was arrested over the weekend in Barangay Punta, San Remigio, Cebu by operatives from the BI Intelligence Division.

Morente said he issued a mission order for Miller’s arrest after the BI received a complaint from barangay officials.

Miller allegedly caused trouble and commited acts that threaten the lives of residents in the community.

“The complainants also alleged that he has been engaging in gainful business activities without the appropriate permit and visa in blatant violation of our immigration laws,” Morente added.

The BI chief said Miller will face a deportation case before the BI board of commissioners.

BI Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said Miller’s stay in the country already lapsed, making him an overstaying alien.

Manahan said the complainants accused Miller of resorting to harassment and intimidation.

The foreigner allegedly occupied a land in the coastal area of the barrio which deprived fishermen from using the property.

Manahan also bared that barangay officials in Punta also passed a resolution declaring Miller persona non grata.

The American is presently detained at the BI’s holding facility in Cebu while undergoing deportation proceedings.
