Homegrown band Wonggoys to release final album ‘Organic,’ album launch June 4 introduces band to more possibilities

The spirited rise of the local gig scene prompted the celebration of Vispop (Visayan Pop), Bisrock (Bisaya Rock) and other subgenres to be widely followed by Cebuanos. There are a handful of names to be considered in the realm of the widely sought-after homegrown bands here in the Queen City of the South. Wonggoys are among the growing list of talented names in the local music scene.

The local band is led by the spectacular talent of three brothers: Gabe, Bill and Kyle Wong—with their forte in pop music, the band showcases a playful lyricism in the songs they produce.

Since 2010, Wonggoys have been making eclectic music that showcases their playful and “bugoy” nature as a band. One of their most famous songs, “Wa’y ‘blema” has over a million streams on Spotify and fully shows their distinct musical color.

This year, the band is marking another milestone: The release of its third and final album entitled “Organic” set on June 4. The band will hold its album launch with a concert on the same day at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, to be joined by other musical guests Relden, DJ Short, The Sundown, Julia Q. and Jericho Streegan.

The new album features a collection of songs that best share the band’s journey with themes of love, loss and family. While it is the last album as a group, the album represents a new beginning and the boys are open to other possibilities. The band members also promise fans that they might not be able to release full-length albums, but they can still release singles from time to time.

Wonggoys are able to pave the way for newer musicians and bands in Cebu to fully celebrate and make the Cebuano music industry flourish by simply being themselves and by exhibiting love and dedication to their craft.

Catch Wonggoys rock its “Organic: Grand Album Launch” on Saturday, June 4 at the Mediterranean Hall of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel at 7 p.m.
