NEGROS Occidental remained to have the lowest number of fully vaccinated adults and senior citizens against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the entire Western Visayas, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Friday, June 3, 2022.

As of June 2, 2022, only 929,061 out of 1.4 million adults eligible for vaccination in Negros Occidental have been fully inoculated or about 65 percent, the lowest in the region.

Of that number, only 6.23 percent or 89,105 have received their booster shots, DOH records showed.

For senior citizens, of the 269,602 eligible for vaccination, only 51 percent or 135,247 have been fully inoculated with only 20,303 or 7.5 percent of them getting their booster shots, the line agency also said.

While Negros Occidental is lagging behind in terms of inoculation of senior citizens and adults, its capital Bacolod City continue to be on top of the vaccination drive in the entire Western Visayas.

The highly-urbanized city recorded 158 percent inoculation among its adult population with 510,115 out of the 321,665 residents initially identified as eligible for vaccination.

Bacolod City also has the highest recorded inoculation among senior citizens with 78,182 getting their jabs out of the 56,666 who have initially signified to be vaccinated or about 128.9 percent.

Provincial Health Officer Ernell Tumimbang said that with the conduct of the month-long provincewide inoculation drive, Negros Occidental will be able to catch up.

Earlier, the provincial government expressed its aim to vaccinate 666,363 residents against Covid-19 this month to hit 100 percent of its target population.

The provincial vaccination will be held every Thursday and Friday for the first three weeks of June, and on Monday and Tuesday in the last week.

But as of Friday, Tumimbang said, they do not have the numbers of residents who have been vaccinated.
