AS the election gun ban officially ended on Sunday, the Police Regional Office reported that more than 3,000 firearms were confiscated while hundreds of individuals were arrested for violating the said measure.
From the start of the election period on January 9 up to June 5, PRO-3 Director Brigadier General Matthew Baccay disclosed that they were able to seize 328 assorted firearms and 2,319 deadly weapons and explosives.
Meanwhile, 400 gun ban violators were arrested and were subsequently filed with appropriate charges, he added.
Baccay furthered that regular checkpoints will still be conducted until the end of election period on June 8.
“I appeal to the public to cooperate with us in the conduct of checkpoint operations and at the same time, I urged the public to be alert and vigilant while passing through our checkpoints and to immediately report any possible irregularities committed by our police personnel,” he said.
