ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas was recognized as education champion with the City Government also in the Top 3 in the 1st Gawad Edukampyon Awards Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Highly Urbanized City Category during the awarding ceremonies at Novotel Manila Araneta City in Quezon City June 3, 2022.
Treñas was presented with the medal and the plaque for the city during Monday flag ceremony.
He commended the personnel of City Social Welfare and Development Office working in ECCD program, and encouraged them to work harder to achieve the top spot as the city is becoming a popular benchmarking destination for other Local Government Units (LGUs) that may replicate the best practice in their localities.
Iloilo City placed third after the cities of Davao and Olongapo in the Gawad Edukampyon for Local Governance, a celebration of achievements and innovations by various LGUs in championing education and good governance towards national development.
The award recognized the meritorious performance of Local Chief Executives (LCEs) and their respective LGUs nationwide who have exemplified utmost dedication in the performance of their sworn duties and responsibilities in adopting programs, projects and activities that led to being champions of EECD.
It was launched by its five pioneering institutional partners: Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Education (DepEd); Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Council Center for Local Governance and Professional Development (CLGPD) and Rex Education. (PR)
